Alfarabi: Preservation of Greek Philosophy

Al-Farabi is known as the ‘Second Master’. According to various medieval writers, the first master was Aristotle. Al-Farabi not only wrote a commentary on the writings of Socrates and Aristotle, but also discussed the origins of their philosophy. The article entitled Al-Farabi: Preservation of Greek Philosophy explores the nuances surrounding what is commonly called Greek philosophy from the social lens of medieval Islamic philosophers.
